Falafel with hummus and Pita bread

Hi, today I will  be sharing with you all a recipe which I wanted to make from very long time, but I couldn’t somehow .I guess it’s one of those things you’re so used to eating it out , you don’t even think about making at home, from scratch. Falafels, I used to eat them in restaurants or cafes. I’ve always loved falafel. I like eating falafel with salad and pita bread and they are healthy option too.

The recipe of falafel was shared to me by one of my friend. So, this time I tried this recipe with my friends and it tastes just like the one I used to have in restaurant or cafes.

For Falafel

  • 1 cup raw dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro or coriander
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp hot paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1-2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • oil for frying


  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor, except olive oil in the food processor.
  2. Pulse a few times until all the ingredients are well combined, but not completely smooth.
  3. Place mixture in a bowl, add olive oil and mix well.
  4. Using your hands, form small flattened rounds and deep fry them in oil.
  5. Serve them with pita bread, cucumber and lettuce salad and hummus.

For Hummus


  • 1 cup boiled chick peas
  • 1-2 garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1 tsp paprika or red chilli powder
  • salt  to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp water


  1. In a bowl of food processor, combine tahini and lemon juice and process for 1 minute, scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl then process for 30 seconds more. This extra helps “whip” or “cream” the tahini, making the hummus smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin and a 1/2 tsp of salt and to the tahini and lemon juice mixture. Process for 30 seconds ,scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, then add remaining chickpeas and process until thick and quite smooth. Add little water if needed for perfect consistency.
  3. Serve hummus with a drizzle of olive oil and paprika or red chilli powder. Store hummus in an airtight container and refrigerate upto one week.

For Salad

  • 1 cup lettuce chopped
  • 1 cup cucumber choped
  • 1 cup tomato chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 tsp lemon juice
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp  sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper


  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, salad is ready to serve with Falafel , Hummus and Pita Bread.

For Pita Bread

I have bought the Pita Bread from market.
